Northern Illinois
We have a 974 (2062). Once they get "broke in" they are easier to adjust. Check the target on the left side to make sure you have lateral set corectly. So it is "in range" so you can use the sickle tilt fully. Some 8120's with tall rubber needed a face plate shim. Center your contour master and with the flex pins in make sure the head is level. Not sure on the 8120 if you can shut off your contour master as you don't need it. Look in the book, you adjust the bolts on the large bolts on the big spring and put the white pointers in the notches on each side of the adapter. Then unlock the flex pins on the top of the header. Lower the head a foot off the ground. You will want 3 to 4" of "Frown" on the outer sections. Look in the book and I think they refer to the adjustment bolts as the belcrank. They are the 3/4 threaded rods near the top tube on the back near the flex pins. If you want to lower the outer sections back the bottom jamb nut off. If you want to raise the outer section back off the top nut and tighten the bottom. Once you get it set and get in the field and run it and you use the header hieght adjustment and you like the way it runs then watch the outer section if they seem to float to much or seem to dig start to fine tune by turning the belcrank nuts one point one the nut at a time to get it where you want it. It usually doesn't take much. If it's a used head I would split the belts grease the rollers and make sure the bearings spin soothly. Check the center belt tensioner. If some ran a big rock in it you can bend the drive roller, it will create a vibration and wear the tensioner slides. We change oil filter every year and synthetic oil in the wobble box each year. We run a johnson rock guard as the stock rock retarder is only good for scrap iron and the johnson helps keep the dirt out. Also check the tension rods on each side of the adapter. It has a ball joint on one end and a bolt on the other end. Our ball joints looked loose but before the end of the season the rod broke. We also put a SCH roller sickle on it. When the head losens up or conditions change a one point adjustment will cure. These observations were on a 36' on a Deere
