| You could guess with the old production "estimate" formula. Figure 80,000 or 90,000 kernels per bushel. Then you could guess ears would have 12 to 18 rows, 32 to 40 long, or 384 to 720. Kernels per bushel times bushels per acre divided by kernels per ear, to give harvested ears per acre. Usually this formula is very optimistic about yield since it neglects weight and size of kernels. Then throw in a fudge factor for germination and survival, maybe 90% to increase the needed population.
For 175 bushels per acre the limits of these guesses gives 90k * 175 / 384 = 41,016 / .90 = 45,573 or 80k * 175 / 720 = 19,444 /.90 = 21,605.
