| In 2001 we started with plentiful subsoil moisture. Come June, July, & early Aug we had a few small rains & ended up well below our avg summer rainfall totals. Pretty much the conditions that I posted where the Uof I said it only took 4 1/2" rains to make a crop. Actually it was the same year. Corn matured earlier & normal & everyone around thought for sure yields would be way off. We were quite surprised with yields, probably the best corn crop we had had up to that time. Though dry, that summer was on the cool side, none of the 100ยบ temp we have seen this year & we had lots of mornings with heavy dew. | |
