Columbia City, Indiana | As far as ramping up to full feed, I don't know how many cattle you're talking about, but I give them free choice access to a large bale of grass hay, and gradually increase the amount of grain I feed them, usually twice per day. Start off with 2 pounds once a day, then go to morning and night after a few days. After a week of that go to 5 pounds once a day and leave the other feeding as it was. Then 5 pounds twice a day... just work your way up slowly, basically. They'll be slicking the bunk up and bawling for more if you take your time and do it right. I think the key is to always have decent hay in front of them so they can eat as much of that as they want, so they never get really hungry. | |
