I think the soil surrounding the plants gives a clue , appears to be lots of moss/algae growing on the soil surface. Was the field recently 'under water" or is the area where the pic was taken prone to water laying, maybe irrigated heavily? I don't see anything really wrong with the brace roots but its certainly not a typical development pattern around here.


No, no flooding or irrigation there. Just a normal spot in the field...
