Downtown Shell Knob MO Come Visit! | Seems like all the "GOOD" big farms that are in top producer talking about how smart it is to contract corn two or three years out are now the ones that don't exist anymore. I can say with everthing mother nature has thrown at me the last couple years with all crops and livestock, the thing that came closests to bankrupting me was forward contracting without a full expectation of how basis and inputs would change. Its one thing to not make two dollars a bushel extra but still make a profit and its another thing to have to pay 2 dollars a bushel for every bushel not delivered just because of a basis change. Insurance checks were make to cover expenses not buy 8 dollar corn to fill a five dollar contract. IMHO. |
