Subject: Aflatoxin in Corn

West Kentucky
I just talked to my insurance agent about the possibility of infected corn due to weather conditions and this is what I was told.
He said that If you put infected corn in you bin straight from the field and then haul that corn to market and it is rejected due to aflatoxin then you will loose your rights to a claim on that corn.
If you haul that corn to the mill and it is rejected due to aflatoxin and you take it home and put it in your bin you will be covered.
If you do your part right and you have to sell the infected corn for $3 a bu instead of say market price of $7 you will get a $4 claim on the corn.
Make sure you cover all your bases with your crop insurance before harvest.
The crop is insured in the field not in the bin.
