dieseldoc - 7/5/2012 12:06 crop insurance doesnt do much if you got dairy cows to feed. even if you get a pay out what the heck are you going to buy to feed the cows. you cant truck corn silage and haylage very far and come out ahead. thats even if you can find someone to sell you feed. plus insurance companys screw you over when they apraise silage corn. they always apraise it way low to keep your aph way down so when you have a bad year they dont have to pay out much.
                                                                                                             i too think the silage to bushel thing is a scam.  they do offer silage insurance and i am going to look into it.   i am also starting to have the adjuster come out every year and verify my silage yields.  One year i got audited, and they want to know what i fed to my cows, which was fine but hey allowed nothing for shrink which i think is around 15 percent
