Just keep the humidity low makes it cool.
I knew a fellow near Fort Worth who had a 5,000 BTU window unit in the back room and his super large house unit set for 80, and he and his family were comfortable . The window unit pumped the humidity down.
Our new unit has two stages. Most of the time it just runs the smaller stage, but if we fill the house with people the second stage kicks in.
A neighbor has a Summer Kitchen for cooking when it is hot. Now that saves a lot on the light and gas bills.
Triple Pane windows helped some plus they reduced the noise in the house.
