ND | It is my opinion that no-till fails to impress because a person needs to adjust fertilizer programs. If you put the same fertilizer on no-till as you do tilled ground you will certainly have poorer looking crops. The no-till ground has more residue retained and consequently less being broken down to feed the current crop. You have to up the fertilizer to help the current crop out a little more. As a payback you are building a bank of OM (nutrients) that will be slower to break down but will better feed future crops. You have to do a proper job and give no-till a chance before you crown tillage from a trial like this. | |
