Every 60 days of stockpile you lose 10% of the N per ton....about 6 pounds per month plus if it gets rained on it will leach nutrients away besides N....if you can spread it and disk it you will lock more of it in the soil for use later....for the no till I would spread it anytime close to plant time. The rule in Arkansas is that it can't sit stockpiled for more than two weeks in the open....it must be spread but I have never seen this rule enforced.....in fact, the county environmental agents are not allowed on farms here but they can come onto my industrial site. What's the soil test say that you need? Why put 3T/acre if not needed? Or if you really want that tonnage on it then split apply it.

120 lb N, 40 P, 75K is what is called for. If I can get by with 2T/ac then fine, just saying I can get 3T/ac for what it will cost me in commercial fertilizer.
