A very good point. What we are seeing in many areas is the downside to higher and higher populations. I believe in some circle pivots they plant 38-40k under the pivot and 18k in the dry corners. A lot of the corn belt is looking like a high plains "dry corner" this year. Might harvest more corn at 18k than at 36k. The retired dairy farmer who bought a new 6 row Kinze planter I posted pictures of earlier this spring only planted 30k. I remarked to him that he could probably plant a higher population like 32-34k. Those retired dairy farmers can be pretty darn smart! He will probably yield a lot better with his 30k than with my 32-34k recommendation. Good point, Farmdude. Jim at Dawn
