| The male row used to get left 20 - 25 years ago when they would harvest with a 4 row head. Male rows would be combined or chopped for silage. I think everything is now harvested with at least 9 row heads in this area (might even be 12 row typically) and so the male row needs to be destroyed and left blank. They destroy those rows with a single row rolling stalk chopper.
If I'm not mistaken based on the background scenery, the field in your picture is a mile from me. Only on NAT can I see a picture of a field down the road posted by someone from in North Carolina. | |
