Are you sure about the plugged knife thing? Patterns look 100% equa-distant. So, the plugged knife must've been an end-row, or the knife right in the center. Otherwise you'd have "offset" patterns.

Did someone discover the plugged tube at the completion (as it appears anyway) of the field & verify this? I certainly would not expect to see this pronounced of a deficit pattern, especially in a dry year. A wet year makes any N shortage or "miss" even more pronounced......I think anyway.
