Has the back feeder chain slipped a cog on one side? If it's running crooked the machine will feed poorly and you'll need to go slow to keep from slipping the clutches.
You may need to get up in the tank and open the access door to see if the chain is off a cog. If it is, it's simple to slip it back a cog without loosening stuff.
