West Central IA | Best thing my wife has done is tie them with baler twine. We use "T" posts and twine like this: T P P T P P T. The trick is to start tying them when they are small. 1st strand is about 6" off the ground. Tie on one end run string on one side of the 1st & second plant, wrap around the second post and string past the next 2 plants. Secure on the end post and go back to the other end with the plants between the string wrapping to the middle t post as you go past it. Tie every 4-6 inches in height. a little work, but works really well. Nothing to store, get tangled up or much expense. The best part is you can have plants 4-5 foot in the air and the tomatoes are easy to get and if you need to dust or spray just cover each side. When done cut the strings, pull the posts and if you use plastic just burn the dead plants. | |
