plowboy - the way to bid is to decide what you are willing to bid, and then bid that amount with 5 seconds left. The only high bid that counts is the last one.
It's just like going to a live auction and getting so involved in the bidding process you get done and say "Why did I give that much for it?"

I'll do a search for what I'm interested in, say Kenwood TK-290 radios. I look them over and decide $200 is a fair price for one, so I bid $210 (my Dad taught me a long time ago if I REALLY wanted something at an auction I needed to be prepared to give just a little more than it worth) if you come along in the last few seconds and bid $200 it's still mine. If you decide to bid for more than it is worth to me, more power to you.

I've went on to doing something else while you worried about sneaking in at the last minute to give more than I wanted to pay for it
