SW IN
Whippoorwill. If you are going to get any sleep, you are going to have to salt them. See, they love salt. So, when one wakes you up, you need to take a newspaper and some salt out to the area where you think they are hiding. Lay the paper down, and put a little salt on it. Then sit down and wait quietly for the bird to find it. Sooner or later, they will smell the salt and come to the paper. At that point, you need to vigorously salt down the little noisemaker. Somehow, that quiets them down. Perhaps they are too busy picking salt out of their feathers to sing. It may take several nights sitting out there, but I guarantee the birds won't bother your sleep again. I am surprised in this many replies, no one has offered this solution.
