Michigan.
Whip-poor-will.

Once they start, they wont shut up untill dawn.
It gets to be background noise after a bit, and only noticed when they suddenly stop which generally means something is afoot nearby.

They eat insects like mad and are quite beneficial to have around...once you get used to sleeping with them making a racket. Hang in there.

For fun sometime, try to mimic thier call by whistling and listen for a reply.
Little boogers are territorial and if you do it right, they ramp things up.

Feral cats, Possums, and Raccoons wipe the critters out by raiding thier ground nests, so if you grow fond of the critter, keep the local varmint population in check.
