| Our 10 year old was diagnosed the first day of Kindergarten. He does great most of the time. Now he doesn't remember when he didn't have to count carbs and check blood. He had injections for 2 years before getting a pump. Hang in there, it's tough but don't get discouraged. Trial and error on how to bolus different foods. Sweets are easy. Complex carbs and fats will take some practice. Make sure he gets plenty of water as the weather heats up. Dehydration will give ketones even if BS is in range. We didn't learn that until last year. Always keep some glucose tablets or candy on his person for when those lows come along. That quick detour from the yard can lead to a long hike that could be bad if he doesn't keep his supplies at his side. | |
