Shallow is the ticket. We run ours 2-3" deep. There is no way that we have found to run it in standing stalks in the spring. We have them in stalks in the fall on warm dry days using spikes rather than shovels. We have a Landoll VT and I'll still take the job the finisher does over that thing.
