West Texas
A little history might help shed light on the mystery.

Back in the 70's and 80's, bikers were a shaggy, furry bunch. Almost every one of them had a mane two feet long. Peer pressure, you know. Then one year at the Daytona Bike Week, one of the wild-haired guys got a hair up his wazoo and stepped into a barber shop and lopped the whole thing off. Everybody there thought it looked so cool (and they were so sick of the longhair hassle thing) that the barbers in Daytona made a killing that year.

Whether they admitted it or not, many young men admired bikers and thought they were "cool", and even though they were scared spitless of big powerful motorcycles, they *had* to look just as cool as the real deal. So there you go ... another fad sweeps the world. Even scrawny wimps who would never straddle anything more menacing than a Vespa scooter were suddenly showing plucked-chicken scalps and scraggly beards.

So now, even mad bombers have to look "cool" or nobody will take them seriously.
