North Mo.
Yes I do have both spring and fall. However I do have friends with 300 to 600 head herds that calve as 3 year olds. If you treat the heifers as growing stock it makes since, if you are a feedlot it makes no sense. They cite various reasons which include longer life of the cow. I cannot verify this myself. I do know I can remember when calving at 2 started to come into mainline thinking. The theory was push the heifer so she will calve at two, then push her so she will re breed. I can also remember Dr. Massy of MU. fame and others advocating early spring calving to get those big calves to sell in the fall. If I remember right he also advocated using bulls that caused 10 to 20% calving problems. The claim was how else are you going to get bigger cattle which was true, but what a cost on livestock and humans. My isn't it a interesting world. Ben
