Ben, you must have both spring and fall calving herds to be able to calve heifers at 2-1/2.  For spring only calving its either they calve at 2 or 3 and 3 just does not pencil out real well.  My heifers should mostly hit 875 to 950 lb by June and 15 months. No problem getting bred at those weights with the bulls I've had so far.

edit: checked last years heifer wts near bull-in and they were in that range.
