Ohio | I had a 4000 bu bin of corn catch fire in the center well a few years ago. sealed the bin best I could, no oxygen no fire I thought, corn burns a long time, about like coal. I then called my trucking co and asked for 3 semi's immediately, they came and I open a hole in the side of bin up 4 feet from the floor and let out all I could and then rigged a sweep auger to unload out the hole as much as I could and got down to where fire was and drowned the rest with water. got the well opened up and augered the rest out and blended it with good corn, ground the worst for the pigs, they liked roasted corn for a change. If you suspect a fire I would unload back out on trucks and water down if needed soon as possible. won't be good for seed but you don't want it to burn in the tank. Ted CenOH | |
