Lander, WY | I've got a 2000 F250 with the V10, 212,000 or so miles. I put a used motor in it two years ago, original motor dropped a valve and tore up a piston and head. I bought it from a friend who used it delivering tractors into the mountains, so I knew it had been well used, but it was priced accordingly.
As far as gas hog? I grew up around 3/4 ton 4x4s with 350's, they got anywhere from 4 to 10 mpg, so for the power the v10 has, I don't consider it a gas hog. I get about 10 towing, if I'm nice (70 on the interstate, keep out of the gas) it will get 14 or so, but drops to 12 pretty quick if you play with it... I normally get about 12. :-P
The price jump to a diesel for 5-8 more MPG of fuel that costs 70 cents more for a few thousand miles a year doesn't make $ sense to me... | |
