| Designations are Steer, Drive, Trailer, and Pig or railroad trailers. While caps have come a long way, you are still dealing with a used/old casing. So much depends on the casing, tread design, rubber compound, and workmanship. Which of course also applies to virgin tires. In general, I prefer virgin tires in all positions, but have tried some caps on trailers. Tearing up a tire for any reason can be painful, but less so on a less expensive tire. Way too many variables to make a blanket statement. | |
