Subject: Re: A question for Tara

Boone Co. Iowa
The things that I see that are different are the ethanol plants creating a huge demand for corn....China growing a class of people that are beginning to enjoy protein in their diets....and the disturbing thing for a corn grower is that the cattle grower is no longer number one customer....strange thing is the relationship between the price of wheat and corn....both can be feed grains.....Other parts of the world will grow corn, I believe Tara is right about the Cost of Production in US. China benefits in our trade relationship, we give them protein/food and they make stuff for us. The kicker will be if Africa or most likely Russia/Ukraine start growing and exporting corn.

The question is, will corn remain a food and a fuel? If corn continues to be both, farmers in the corn belt will continue to be in a really good situation. We might lose export to other lower cost of production competitors, but demand in US corn belt will remain high, and maybe less corn travels down on barges or rails?
