winter app is pretty common, assuming the pile was indoors (from local coop, supplier, etc) or tarped well outside, you should be ok. If its crusted over slightly in field already, break the crust and it'll dry pretty quickly and you should be able to spread. Most winter app here is never piled in field, comes straight off an auger/conveyor truck.
