Subject: RE: chisel plowing after corn

central - east central Minnesota -

I was out in some corn that went through a corn head chopper - thought I could chisel plow (no disk on chisel) without disking - residue is too fluffy. It wasn't a problem of plugging, just too fluffy. It didn't mix/burry the residue like I did in other fields.
We haven't had a rain since end of August . ..  ..  I pulled out of the field and hooked on the offset disk - it did ok, but there is still lots' of fluffy residue floating on top. I offset disked all my other fields, but they are going back to corn, then used deep chiseled them. I got a fair mix and decent black soil showing - for faster warmup in the spring.
I'll try the chisel plow again tomorrow - hopefully the wind over night and some frost will settle the residue some, before morning.
If I had a land roller, I'd roll it.
Edit: Oh, i have 4 inch twist points on the chisel plow.....
