Downtown Shell Knob MO Come Visit!
Hes by the book on a lot of stuff. Like when he talks about applying 30lbs of surface applied N to stalks in the fall. Well yes, the book/logic shows that it will balance the C:N ratio and help everything break down much quicker, and its such a cut and dry easy practice to preach, its makes much more sense to say that instead of telling people to do nothing in the fall, but most studys show that the extra 30lbs in the spring is just as effective for yield. Im not knocking the guy, I like him, and hes good and knows that he has to use general "work for everyone ideas" so he preachs a lot of the same stuff that makes good sense in everyones head. I mean how hard is it to grow C on C if the C to N is balanced, and the residue is controlled, and base fertility is good, and all micros are at normal levels, and the soil has good structure and drainage with no limits to rooting deapth, Its that easy :)
And best of all is his killer mustache , Its right up there with magnum PI and Bert Reynolds !!!!!!!! Its what puts him over the top and makes him "the best"
