Dodge City, KS

Hey Chart, Sorry I didn't get back with you sooner. It was a long afternoon and late night cutting milo, and I wasn't around the computer. How much we apply depends on the soil sample recommendations, but we usually shoot for a total of 60lbs. N on the wheat ground and 80-100lbs. N on the milo. What little feed ground we have, doesn't get any N so that we don't have to worry about nitrates. We use 32-0-0. Application dates are anywhere from 2.5-4 weeks before seeding. We have the COOP broadcast our phosphorus and we apply the N after that, in hopes of using the coulters and tractor to incorporate it a little. However, we are tossing around the idea of rigging an applicator to mix 32-0-0 and 10-34-0 in a manifold and then shoot that solution into the ground. It would be very similar to this applicator, http://www.kastensinc.com/farminformation/equipment_shop/fertilizerrig.htm, which is where we got the idea from. (If the link doesn't work, just copy and paste it into the address bar, please.) This would eliminate the COOP's heavy applicator from running over the ground and creating another compaction area that runs straight accross the field. In milo, they really show up because an entire row or two will get planted into that track and the plants don't seem to grow as well. That is another reason we run at angles. Sorry for the length.
