Subject: RE: Anhydrous at angle?

Nevada, Iowa
I have seen NH3 burn seedlings even when applied in the fall of the year. This can happen when the soil is abnormally dry or if the application is too shallow or both. Applying at an angle will likely lessen the percentage of affected seedlings especially if your applicator knife spacing is the same as your planter row width. Also, applicators without coulters seem to handle residue flow a little better in bean stubble at an angle as opposed to going straight. If you're doing some kind of traffic controlled, strip till or auto steer program and can avoid planting in the knife track, I would go straight.
