Rolla, ND | Few thoughts. Crop share is rather tougher if you aren't there. Crops may look good and not be good in the end and then you wonder if you got cheated. Also share crop adds the FSA office into the equation, many just give power to the tenant.
I have seen share crop make it impossible to grow certain crops. For instance if you are taking 30% clear you sure wouldn't ever have sugarbeets or potatoes grown on your land. Seen it with others too. Landlord kept wondering why the guy wouldn't grow canola on his land and finally the guy sat down and showed the landlord the numbers. The landlord could make great but the tenant wouldn't make anything so why grow it. | |
