Subject: Soybeans, row spacing, sunlight absorbtion

Eastern Ontario
Given that everything else is in check, one would think that the soybean plant that absorbs the most sunlight would have the better chance of producing yield in a perfect year.
That brings the question: What row spacing is the most optimal for the soybean plant to capture the most sunlight?

I've attached a quick sketch. Not to scale.

It would seem the 7 1/2" spacing would be the clear winner early in the season. But once they canopy there would only be a flat surface absorbing the sunlight vs the 15 and 30s which have a wavy surface and therefore more surface area to capture sunlight.

It's a tough call to make.

What are your thoughts?

Have there been any studies on sunlight absorbtion vs row spacing? Would be interesting to read.
