Martinsville, Ohio
The value of the rye loosening and protecting the soil is worth more than the possible downsides of it. Corn and beans sure take off in dead rye roots. I plan to kill mine early with Gramoxone, too and use insecticide with it. My best crops are after rye this year. If there were a good fall legume, we would plant them, wouldn't we?

Clock is even ticking on rye or we won't see it until next spring.
