Saskatchewan, big whitetail country!!! | Canola also is a bit fickle once it is emerged, I should mention. Meaning the stand may not look that great, but it can still produce a tremendous crop. I have had several times what I thought was poor emergence/establishment turn into an excellent crop, due to its ability to compensate for bare areas so well by branching out amazing amounts, and forming a canopy with as little as a plant a square foot. After having these disasters turn out so well, I will walk in fields I suspect are poorishly established, and providing every step I take there is a seedling or two, I call it worthwhile leaving rather than re-seeding. Just a bit of info for once its up. Beans produce a basic single stick, so they need a certain density, but canola makes many side branches when it is thinner than you want. Good luck, here's to your little seedlings! |
