The accepted practice in most areas would be to leave the house as clean as possible through your own efforts. Nail hole repairs is not necessary, but if you have say curtain rods stripped out, fixing those screw holes would be a nice gesture. No need to touch up paint. If you want to go a step ahead hire a cleaning service to give it the basic once over.

Technically, the purchase agreement should outline the condition and identify any areas that are not in proper repair. If that is accurate, that is really all you need to do. But the gesture like you say is meaningful, especially if its a first time home owner.
