Subject: Re: cover crop in a wheat soy rotation

Almont MI
Another reason I would like a cereal grain is I have doing some reading on the effects of cereal grain cover crops ability to suppress white mold in back to back full season soybeans. I'm sure I don't fully understand the biology behind it but it has somthing to do with the cereal grain causing the spore of the mold to germinate early(May)when the soy is just sprouting. Apparently soys are only suspectable to the mold spore durring flowering and/or after physical damage. Another thought is to simply use winter wheat as a cover, then some spring growth will occur verses oats and barley winterkilling.

Thanks Pat
