north central Kansas
Triticale is one I've heard in addition to the rye, oats, or wheat suggested. I'm not sure how late is too late for tillage radish but I was surprised at how much my radishes grew late last year. They were planted in mid-August. I have heard several cases of planting radishes along with a cash crop of winter wheat so that would lead me to believe they could be planted later. I'm not in Michigan, though.
