Subject: looking for pretty tree species for northern Nebraska

Renoing a house and need a bit of afternoon shade on west side of house on busy 4 lane main street (lots of salt spray from snow plowing).

Are some species of trees more salt tolerate than others???

Dont want a huge tree that falls on and crushes house like all over town. Like old huge tall elms, cottonwood, maples etc.

Like the pink or red flowered tree in spring and purple colored in fall,,,but dont know what those are.

AND any other little landscaping ideas for a single story little ranch with 15 -20 feet of front yard. It is plain Jane and bare right now. Going to tear out grass as whole lawn is 6 inches high and house sits in mud puddle. Going to take it down to couple inches below concrete walks. Cant add around house as its too close to the ground as is.

Thanks for ANY ideas!!! -d-
