Hay Wilson in TX - 9/7/2011 13:27 ... HERE I can lay waste hay in the walk way's in a garden, and by next spring the Trash will be mostly gone. That happens with 12 months of respiration and transpiration.
But if you were to poke the hay stems in the ground so they were standing up with only the one end in contact with the soil, would the hay stems be as decomposed and useful as nutrients as the hay that was layed out flat on the soil? Basically, IMO, there is a difference between standing residue and residue laying in contact with the soil. Is my assumption/observation correct?
