Farming in NW Iowa
Well thanks Uncle Fester, I am sure to be in the minority on this subject. I'll have to say some of my bean fields have some weeds but I guess I don't mind a few evenings in the bean field pulling or cutting down a few sunflowers (it gives me more time with my family). At least it's not waterhemp or marestail! I even cultivated a field of soybeans this year. I still have a bean rider that gets used occasionally. But I've seen some people's fields with major amounts of waterhemp this year, and the farmers don't seeem to care what it looks like. A single pass of Roundup doesn't do the job anymore. I would think there is some yield loss, as well as a more severe problem in the coming years. All 3 of my landlords seem to think I'm doing a good job, so I guess it's not a total train wreck as some would like to call it.
