If you have a dry weather window, 3 or 4 days, cut with a stalk chopper or batwing, rake, and bale in the same day. Don't get the windrows too big. After a chopper or a batwing the pieces are rather small and beat up. Not as hard on equipment as you would think because there is still a lot of leaves too. Not just stalks. Rotory rake works the best.
