Where is your location? That GREATLY effects your wintering costs ( thus total costs ) and machinery ( if or as needed ) logistics ( thus total costs ).

Could be that if you can put together a cost effective grazing unit, FORGET buying your own cattle.
Simply find a cow calf operator in your 100 mile radius that will pay you monthly ( generally 25 to $40 per cow per month ) to run their cattle.

If you can pick up 40 per mo for the summer ( 6 months ) and 25 for winter that might work best for both of you.
