East Central Arkansas
Back some time ago, after the prices had begin to climb, someone was commenting about the higher prices and the potential for high profits. My thoughts was that more farmers will go broke with these high prices than with the prices we had prior to this time. At the time I just didn't realize how bad it would affect me. We booked a good portion of this years crop back last Fall at what traditionally would have been good prices. With the flood this Spring and losing a corn crop and not knowing if we would get to plant any cotton we ended up buying out contracts at prices that were a good bit higher than our booking. People see these high prices and they think that if a farmer produces a crop they get that price for thier crop. I know that we are blessed that we did get to plant a crop and it should be a decent crop if everything goes good from here on out.
