Subject: RE: Cotton defoliants... shortage?

Mississippi

A Midsouth Extension cotton specialist told me yesterday that one of the two thidiazuron suppliers/manufacturers was dependent this year on a Chinese factory that hit a delay and won't be able to deliver on time. The other company, he said, makes the stuff domestically and had its regular supply but not enough to make up the difference. Can't remember the company names.

A consultant in the upper San Joaquin Valley told me this afternoon that one of the dealer reps recommended that his growers lock in their Ginstar early. Ginstar is a premix containing thidiazuron. The rep told him they would only have about half their planned inventory.

There was suppose to be a pre-defoliation teleconference today amongst Arkansas, Mississippi and Tennessee Extension workers, and I'm told that the subject would be covered. I never could get the link to work, though, and am hoping that they'll post the recording later.
