Subject: Louisiana Corn Harvest Pics and results

Northeast Louisiana

Hey all,

Just finished with our corn here in NE Louisiana on the Macon Ridge.  Yields were fair, not as good as usual but not as bad as they could have been.  Down here we've had around 30 days of 100+ temps dating back to first week of June when corn was tasselling.  Corn was planted mid-March.  Water was the name of the game, as we got a big rain in April then little to none until the very end of July, when corn was basically done.  All of our corn was furrow irrigated, but in some areas the early rains compacted the ground and the water just ran down the middles and didn't soak into the ground as well as it should have.  Those areas sufferered. Our fields averaged from 130 - 160, but the corn within the field ranged from 250 down to 80, depending on soil type and how well the irrigation water soaked in. Here's a few pics.  The last one is our old IH 4300 which got a much deserved paint job this year.
