Hogwash.  Do you think plants need water just because they are thirsty?  That they just need to be "wet" or something?

Photosynthisis cannot occur unless there is a water molocule to split into two pieces with the plant using the Hydrogen portion to create sugar and discarding the oxygen into the air.

All of the plant's energy could not be fixed from the sun without hydrogen - the sun would be of no use at all.  Also nearly 90% of the corn kernal is the starch that starts in the form of C6-H12-O6.  

Phosphorus must not be a nutrient either because you apply it as P205.  Pottasium must not be a nutrient since it comes as K20 - sarcasm off.
