WJKEIGER - 8/12/2011 16:29 I remember reading an article somewhere, probably 20 years ago, about crop scientist breeding/developing/modifying crops for higher yields. One guy said that if we can get all corn plants to produce two ears for 400 bu/acre AND produce grain in every tassel (as some plants do) at 100 bu/acre , then corn would yield 500 bu/acre .


Ive always felt like the seed companies would rather breed traits that encourage higher populations to achive higher yields so that they can sell more seed that way. Ive noticed that some hybrids will try to fill a secondary ear and some dont even try. Ive even seen a lone stalk with more that 2 ears.
